Does Google ignore "Punctuation and symbols in search?"

Lots of people are wanting to know if Google ignores punctuation and symbols like: - dash, + plus sign, $ sign, _Underscore, # Hashtag Number Sign, & Ampersand sign, etc. in a search result.
